Face it, being fit and healthy is the same process that it takes to be successful in business:
- set goals
- have a plan
- stick to the plan
- use a formal structure
- do it even when you don't particularly feel like it, and
- take time off
In keeping with this philosophy, I'd like to suggest the use of James Arthur Ray's (seen in "The Secret"), "S.M.A.R.T." goal for your fitness goals, whatever they may be: Be specific, make it measurable and set a date.
For best results, goals should meet three important criteria: They are specific, measurable and timed.
The S.M.A.R.T. goal is one that is:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Time-Sensitive
Instead of "I want to lose weight," make it specific and measurable: "I will be in excellent condition: My body will have 25 percent body fat, and I will be able enjoy jogging for 45 minutes."

Unless you make a goal specific its hard to obtain. My goal is to jog three days a week.
Vicki
good for you, Vicki! what is your specific goal in jogging three days a week?
Hi Loretta,
My goal is to walk 2+ miles five days a week. That will support my other goals of losing weight, being healthier, happier and getting the dogs their exercise too.
No beating self allowed, Leah! As I understand it, we need to congratulate ourselves for what we have done, and give no energy to whatever we may not have done...and a daily exercise commitment is perfect--then it's a habit! :-)
Yay, Rhonda! I think the first step is the most important!
Add some breathing exercises, too, Scott, then you can say you're working aerobically! ha...
